How do I remain compliant?

To ensure you are not liable for the consequences should a fire occur in your building, you must ensure that you remain complaint with a number of
British Standards such as BS5839-1. There are various procedures that you can follow to ensure that you are fully compliant with the necessary law and regulations, these include:

Procedures to follow:

	Update your fire risk assessment		Ensure all staff have received training
	Update necessary fire equipment		Ensure all staff are made aware of emergency exits
	Update your fire evacuation procedure

The first and most important procedure to follow is getting your fire risk assessment assessed/ updated. Should your fire risk assessment not have been updated in recent years or months, it is advised that it is checked to ensure that you are not liable for the consequences should a fire occur. There are many regulations regarding the necessary fire equipment that is needed for your building. An example of this would be fire extinguishers. Should your building have more than 2 floors you must have at least 2 extinguishers per floor.

Its just as important for you to understand your fire evacuation procedure as it is for your staff to know. Should your staff be unaware, they could cause more harm to themselves or others in the event of a fire. To prevent this adequate levels of training should be put into place so that they are aware of: all emergency exits, how to exit safely and where necessary equipment is should they have to put out the fire themselves.
